Vancouver Island - West Coast Region

Vancouver West Coast Regional MapVancouver Island's stunning geography is the backdrop for a wide variety of wilderness adventures. The Island's wildlife population may best be summed up as "bears, bears, and more bears". The black bear concentration on the Island is second to none in the world, and guide outfitters regularly assist their hunters in finding Boone and Crockett trophy bears. The bear population is growing, and latest reports claim more than one bear per square mile on the Island. Some of the guide outfitters also maintain sections of coastal mainland directly across from their primary Island territory, and here large coastal grizzly bear are in abundance. Outfitters here also offer mountain goat opportunities, and hunting the Coastal Mountains within eyesight of the Pacific Ocean is always a thrilling experience.

The Island is also teeming with Columbia blacktail deer, and anyone who has hunted for this reclusive species can testify to the challenge of that hunt. The region is also the only area in British Columbia where hunters may find Roosevelt elk. The cougar population is also extremely healthy and monster "toms" are taken every year. Combine these animals with a healthy wolf population, and Vancouver Island becomes a must for hunters interested in pursuing an adventure to remember.

And the fishing! Most guides offer fishing opportunities for various types of salmon, trout, and steelhead. Campbell River on the Island has long been a favourite destination for fishing enthusiasts, while fishing on the West Coast of the Island is nothing short of amazing.
